ISTE, the International Society of Technology in Education, has been providing "leadership and service to improve teaching, learning, and school leadership by advancing the effective use of technology in PK–12 and teacher education" (reference).

Since January 2009, ISTE has been updating its NETS (National Educational Technology Standards), and though this organization is based out of the U.S., the ideas they present apply universally.
