HALLOWEEN MONSTER MATCH

POINT-T0-POINT COLLABORATIVE VC OPPORTUNITY

DIVISION LEVELS: 1, 2, 3

SUBJECTS: Math, Language Arts, Art

REGISTRATION OPEN: September 14 - 30, 2009

EVENT WINDOW: October19 - 30, 2009

Pair up with another class in Alberta!  Your students will have a ghoulishly great time while integrating Math and Language Arts into their projects!

Once you have joined, you will receive a registration form via e-mail to complete and submit, as well as an information package to help you on your way.  

 

A partner match will be made for you and you will be notified within a week of the Registration Window closing!

 

 

DESCRIPTION:

Monster Match is a DESCRIPTIVE WRITING EXCHANGE involving both LANGUAGE ARTS and MATHEMATICS curricular links.  Students will use this collaborative opportunity to practice writing and following directions.  

 

BEFORE THE VC:

1. Create the Monster

Students will be asked to write a very detailed description of a monster (using words, colours and measurements).  Their monster can be two-dimensional - drawn and coloured on a large piece of paper, or three-dimensional - using cardboard boxes and other materials easy to find in a classroom.    They will then be asked to create this monster to show what the end result SHOULD look like.

2. Exchange Descriptions

Teachers are now asked to send the students' monster descriptions to their partner classes.  When you receive the description of your partner students' monsters, your class must work to assemble or draw an accurate monster that matches the description you have received.
