Lego robotics in the classroom is an excellent way to get students excited and motivated about science and technology.  This 2Learn.ca Courselet walks teachers through an exploration of how to introduce and support Lego robotics in their classroom.  Participating teachers should have access to a Lego Mindstorms RCX or NXT kit during the Courselet.  One key deliverable of the Courselet is an understanding of how to utilize First Lego League and other online resources to support problem-based science activities.  An overview of the FIRST robotics competitions completes this courselet designed for teachers with little or lots of robotics experience.  If you want to get your students excited about science and technology using Lego in the classroom - this is the Courselet for you!

This Courselet provides teachers from across the grades with an opportunity to develop an understanding of effective uses of interactive whiteboards in curriculum delivery and assessment.  This courselet explores specific advantages of interactive whiteboard use and engages teachers in collaborative discussions centered on exemplar videos.  The identification of resources and development of shared resources or lesson plans culminate the activities in the Courselet.  Upon completion teachers will have developed core understandings of interactive whiteboard practices and go away with resources for immediate use in their classroom.

This courselet provides educators with an interactive opportunity to setup and manage an online group. Participants should have the development of a specific online group in mind as this Courselet is very practical in nature.  Using the online Alberta Educator's Network, www.2Learn2Gether.ca, participants will explore the functionality and affordances of an online community for educational purposes such as Professional Learning Communities (PLC) s or sharing of classroom ideas among small groups.  Upon completion of this Courselet, teachers will have developed an online group with resources and an understanding of how to support it effectively.

Lego robotics in the classroom is an excellent way to get students excited and motivated about science and technology.  This 2Learn.ca Courselet is for teachers who are interested in participating or learning about the First Lego League competition (FLL).  FLL has grown over the past 10 years to an international science and technology phenomenon that is being done in schools, community groups, and student clubs!  No prior FLL or Lego robotics experience for teachers is necessary wanting to take this courselet, but participating teachers need access to a Lego Mindstorms RCX or NXT kit.  At the conclusion of this Courselet, teachers will have developed implementation strategies for the Lego robotics and FLL materials in their classroom, even to the point of supporting a FLL team to take to the Alberta FLL competition in the last week of January 2010.
