Think about the current technology situation you face in your teaching. Share your insights on how you would use an online interactive in one of the following scenarios:

A classroom with one computer

A classroom with 5 or less computers

A classroom with one computer for every two students

A 1-to-1 laptop classroom

We will talk to a classroom with one laptop for every two students.

We would preview the site on the smartboard to explain it, and then allow the students to work collaboratively on the site in pairs.  They would have the opportunity to talk about the concepts, and share their thinking as they worked through the activity.  Using heterogeneous groupings would be really helpful to the lower kids, who will get the explanantion, and the higher kids will get the chance to expain their thinking.  Homogeneous groupings would allow students to work at their own level and challenge themselves.

An idea would be to allow students to search the site in pairs to find math games that fit the current unit.

We would model the activities on the sites for the whole class on the Smartboard and then the students would interact with the same sites using individual laptops. Starting with an activity that is highly supported by the teacher, moving to a small group activity (partners), then to independant learning as individuals.

Tt is a good tool for mulitgrade or multilevelled classroom to allow students to explore or participate at their own rate. It can be student or teacher directed within safe parameters set and can be a constructivist model for learning. Choices are there for them.

You can use some of these websites on the smartboard as an introduction and then take the class to the lab.

We only have a teacher computer available in the classrooms but with the use of a SmartBoard.  It has been a great help having an interactive tool the keeps kids engaged.  Some websites are more appropriate to full class instruction over individual but it is a good way to show sites that the kids can use for practice at home.

Ideally every child would have their own laptop and be able to explore the sites at their own speed.  Having a SMARTboard in my room has really opened up opportunities to bring the world into my classroom for the Kindergarten children.

Envisioning how to engage the 21st century learner (ie: a 1-to-1 laptop clasroom), would look something similar to today's 2learn.ca PD session.  Collaboration, facilitation, guiding, sharing, and coaching would all be paramount when using an online interactive resource.
