We have just spent the morning exploring and discussing online interactives that can be used with K-6 students. After reviewing the online interactive sites, we found value in...
We found value in taking the time to check out the different resources on the kidslove2learn site. We valued having time to check out and evaluate the websites for classroom use. We all found a resource we can use in the near future.
We liked the kids love to learn list of resources, because we can recommend the site and the kids can go there and explore activities based on the topic they are currently studying. It would be great for extra practice at home. We are thinking of adding the site as a link from our website so parents can explore it. We just learned that there is a site for parents at www.2learn.ca/parent/index.html .
Part 2
We really liked the set up of this session. There were power cords available, everyone was pre-registered, and there were techs to help with our difficulties. Great!
We also liked that the resources on the site were pre-screened for classroom use.
We valued the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues, and share the resources we found with each other. Constructivist learning at its best :)
We found value in...
1. LA/Social: literacy activities (eg: "www.googlelittrip.com") using Google Earth.
2. Using the 5 guiding questions for reviewing online resources during the Math seminar.
3. Having the time to explore and review digital resources.
4. Storymaker at www.carnegielibrary.org
We found value in having access to the different websites and the modelling, coaching and scaffolding activities. Also, it good to have assistance when searching the sites. Some of the sites in LA and Socialwere not user friendly so we would need practice before using with a class. The instructions were not always clear. Having time to review some of the sites was good. Reading was a requirement for the K-2 sites, which might not be okay for that level. Saving work was not always available. In the math, it was more user friendly.
The morning session was very informative and interactive. The capacity to explore in a supportive environment as well as allowing time to talk with collegues is invaluable. Sharing with staff and the implementation of learned material can be overwhleming. An action plan has to be developed to inform staff allowing for their different knowledge bases. This is our challenge when we go back to our school.

Fantastic Table 4
After much discussion with our table group we decided that the things we found value in from this morning were...
1. We valued having time to explore the 2Learn.ca sites.
2. We were reminded that in developing lessons it is best to visit 2Learn.ca site instead of googling what has already been googled and sorted for us.
Question 2
Regardless of the number of computers in the classroom we need to get the tools for creating and exploring to the students and move away from the 'sage on the stage' approach. Students often know the tools better than we do and we just need to nudge them in the correct curricular directions.
Now that we have been back at school for a few days, I have found the language arts links have been great. I even took a few minutes just to let the kids explore with the sites on their own. They really enjoyed the freedom of variety and choice, I liked that the sites were all safe and I knew that they would not go somewhere they shouldn't be.
